Student Success: Ashley Day
Ashley Day (‘17 DVM) is a third year veterinary student at Washington State University with an interest in dermatology, nutrition, and feline medicine. She is originally from Vancouver, Washington and completed her undergraduate degree in biology at Washington State University Vancouver in 2013. She worked as a veterinary assistant for a small animal general practice before entering WSU’s veterinary program. Her interest in veterinary medicine began at an early age, but she did not know that she wanted to pursue dermatology until her first year of veterinary school when her own dog developed a skin condition. While at WSU, Ashley has been involved in multiple clubs and activities. She is an active member of the Student Chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the Veterinary Business Management Association club, and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association club (HSVMA). Through the HSVMA’s community outreach program, Ashley has traveled throughout the United States to help provide free spay/neuter and preventative care to impoverished communities. The training she received in her first year of veterinary school through WSU’s surgery courses and open lab program prepared her to perform live animal surgery after her first year. She has also been able to expand her nutrition knowledge by becoming a student ambassador for Royal Canin at WSU. After graduating in 2017, Ashley plans to complete a one year rotating internship in small animal medicine before pursuing a residency in dermatology. Ashley currently lives in Pullman with her cat and three yorkies.
