Student Success: Heather Hastings
Heather Hastings (’11 BS, ’17 DVM), a third year Washington State University veterinary student, has wanted to be a veterinarian as long as she can remember. That passion was evident growing up as she used to practice “surgery” skills on her favorite stuffed dog named DoDo. Born and raised in the city of Seattle, Heather was initially interested in small animal medicine. It wasn’t until working towards her animal sciences degree at Washington State University that she discovered her love for food animal/production medicine. After discovering this passion, she graduated and went on to complete two years of dairy cattle nutrition research before starting veterinary school. Heather is currently an officer for the agricultural animal club and the president of the class of 2017. She has spent her summers in the Northwest Bovine Veterinary Experience Program gaining hands-on dairy medicine experience. Heather hopes to work in a large animal practice or industry and help promote public health through food safety. In her spare time, she loves to go on long hikes with her new black lab/hound puppy named Petri.
