Student Success: Marie Salazar
Marie Salazar (’12 BS, ’17 DVM) is a third year veterinary student interested in mixed animal practice. Originally from the small town of Mill A, Washington, she has always wanted to return to work in a small rural community. Marie had her sights set on practicing veterinary medicine since childhood and thus, after graduating high school, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Zoology at Washington State University.
Marie is thrilled by the countless opportunities WSU College of Veterinary Medicine has to offer outside of the classroom. She dedicates time to serving on the Graduate and Professional Student Association and the SCAVMA board. To complement her minor in Business Administration, she devotes time to developing her veterinary business acumen by participating in WSU’s Veterinary Business Management Association which is ranked #1 chapter in the nation.
When asked about her favorite feature of life as a WSU student, Marie confidently expresses her regard for the strong community feeling of the college. Faculty and colleagues associated with the veterinary school are very supportive of student learning goals. She loves that from day one first year students are encouraged to spend time in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. On the weekend you’ll catch Marie pouring drafts at Paradise Creek Brewery, and when time allows she’s outside hiking and enjoying the fresh air of the Northwest.
